Here’s a new Iphone 4 case featuring the brand’s iconic waffle sole pattern on the back. The case sold out from the online store in minutes. “The brand has now announced that the next drop will be in February 2012 and the case will go for 28 USD. Until then you can try on eBay, but the price seems to be a little too inflated in our opinion, therefore it seems to be worth waiting.” – Highsnobiety
Mini Cooper asked people to describe The Best Test Drive Ever. Period. in just six words, and they did. From thousands of entries only one was made into a reality. Mathew Foster, whose description was picked as #1 in The Best Test Drive Ever. Period. Here it is. Turned into a great advertising concept and even greater visuals. Plus anything dealing with Sushi is cool with me. Here it is:

From the new Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2012 Collection comes these wooden sunglasses, combining the wooden frame with an inner metal frame, holding the lenses. The sunglasses come in two colorways and should be released by LV retail stores shortly.
London based producer behind SBTRKT brings more of the deeply base driven, 8bit/dubstep sound with ‘Ride to Freedom’. “In SBTRKT and his cohorts’ classic art-dubstep way, it’s heavy and bass-driven, all complex, clattering percussion, dizzying synth patterns, and chilly, ‘80s-inspired background drones. It’s futuristic and fascinating – every listen reveals hidden tidbits, new things to follow with your ear.” (Via PMA) Check it out here:

Digital Alphabet in stone
Dom Hans van der Laan (Leiden, 1904-1991) was a Dutch architect and Benedictine monk. After only a few years of architecture study Van der Laan developed a system of ratio principles based on the theory of the plastic number, which he invented. Using this theory Dom Hans van der Laan not only designed buildings, he also developed a typeface: the Alphabet in stone. This typeface is based on the Roman carved stone capitals that were used in the first century AD.
This exclusive typeface is now digitized and modernized. The complete font family contains four members: the basic figures from which the letters are created, a version with guides and contour lines, the regular font and the typeface showing the axes.
By digitizing this typeface, cutting letters in stone is simplified as it enables stonemasons to print directly onto a medium. It saves a great deal of time because the letters do not need to be drawn by hand anymore. Modern techniques, like milling and laser cutting, are now possible too.

About the typeface
In his notes, Dom Hans van der Laan described the figures of the letters: “The basic figures of the letters are the square and the rectangle 3:4. Standing alone or combined, they form a series of five authentic figures. Added together they form a series of five derived figures.”
These authentic and derived figures are digitized for the first weight of the digital Alphabet in stone. Since a digital font cannot contain grayscale, diagonal shading is used for the rectangles – in accordance with the drawings of Van der Laan.
The line width of the figures is considerably thick, but this is essential for use on a small scale. Actually, the first weight forms the base for the other three weights.
Van der Laan not only described the figures, he also defined the spaces between the letters. These spaces are also constructed from the authentic figures. The shapes of the adjacent letters determine which one of these figures needs to be used: “The sides of the letters can be straight, angled or curved.”
Defining spaces between glyphs is called kerning. In the case of the digital Alphabet in stone over 3,000 values were described.
Los Angeles personality and popular video blogger Levi Maestro has teamed up with Vans to present his first ever collaboration footwear under the brand’s Vault collection. Based on Maestro’s personal preferences to color, design and construction, the low-key shoe is made of grey premium leather with suede material on the toecap. Interesting facet of the shoe however goes to the deconstructed panel, square lace holes, and a multicolored rubber waffle outsole. A release of this collaboration sneaker is set for January 2012.
